hey guys im just about to drop the trans and case to put in a new clutch and was wondering where the best spot to place the jack (on the tranny/case) to avoid tipping. This is my first time ever dropping a tranny and replacing a clutch. any advice is weclome. all i have left to do is unbolt the crossmember from the frame and the bellhousing from the block.

how did you use blocks of wood?

 

Unless you have a couple of strong friends, I recommend spending a few bucks and renting a transmission jack. Then the tip is leave the crossmember attached to the trans - makes it much more stable, and strap the whole thing to the jack.

 

but where should place the jack on the trans for it to be balanced

 

i would like to know how to get a trans jack under your truck when its on the ground

 

i dont have a trans jack i have large 3 1/2 ton jack which i used to raise the truck some then i placed a couple of jack stands under it. Now that the truck is raised I can use the 3 1/2 ton jack as a tans jack.

 

im going to drop the trans tomarrow but i would still like to know where i should place the jack on the trans for proper balance when lowering it to keep it from tipping

 

right in the middle strap it down real good and you should be fine
