Unhappy What did i break?

I tried to post on the repair section but it didnt let me. Anyways, so as some of you know im new here and i just bought my first 4x4 yota. I took it out on thursday night, first time ever trying to wheel... To make a long story short i start getting really bad wheel hop, i didnt know that, that was bad... :pat: so i just laid on the gas until something broke!

Basically when i lock the right wheel hub it starts to make the LOUD clunk sound as i roll forward. Would it be the CV shaft? Or the pumkin it self or transfer case? How can i take it step by step to figure this out guys?

Also when i yank on the CV shaft it has play, is that normal or is it part of w/e i broke?

Sorry if its a dumb question but i have no idea how to work on 4x4's im such a newb. But F-Bodys im a master haha

Thanks guys.

The telltale sign of a worn/broken cv is a clicking sound when you corner. Doesn't really sound like that by your description. Is the play in your cv inward/outward from the differential or front to rear? It might be the cv if it took a hard impact, or maybe a bearing in the hub or the hub itself. I'm just throwing some ideas out there. I'll let someone else chime in.

i would be willing to bet on the cv shaft, get under the truck and see if you can move the cv shaft in any direction. watch the rubber boots at the wheel and diff, if its the cv joint thats broken it will show up as movement in the boot.

if thats the case, you can move on to repairing the carnage. search for broken cv shaft or cv shaft repair, there are plenty of 'how to' posts on this topic.
