Sophomore Design

It has been a long time since I've been on the ole' yotatech.com. looks like everyone is getting serious on there toyotas and im liking it. anyways heres the deal people. im a sophomore at UNC-Charlotte. I just started in my machine lab. we are currently making

Air Cylinder

I have very little knowledge of the "smithy" machines we are using but after i finish this i will having an understanding of some basics.

Alright heres my question....they want us to make our own creation after this air cylinder. something that is useful and takes some skill with metal. so is there anything for a 95 4runner that could be machined that is fairly basic and functional?

That air cylinder thing must be a universal thing engineering students are taught. I made one of those too at cal poly.

Make ball joint spacers. Flashlight? A winch fairlead? A shifter knob? GPS mount?

Edit, oh...hmmm...you already have BJ spacers...I'll think of something...

well i dont have a winch so that would be somewhat un-functional for my application. but the gps mount sounds cool. i will try to look into that. i was thinking about a mountain bike rack also(trailer hitch style that swings out like some of the spare tire carriers.) shifter knob would be a good project on the lathe machine. ill ask around about that. anything else?

Hey, that a cool project! I go to UNCC and I'm studying mechanical engineering too.

Keep your engineering books, you'll need them later.

I agree with Steve, keep those textbooks, you will need them later. I've actually started buying more on other subjects to keep as reference.

you can machine a ford E4OD tranny to toyota t-case adapter.... i'll take one.... Shift knobs are always a good one, a-pillar mounts for off-road lights are good, twin stick shifter is a great one!

Oh yeah, I need a dual transfer case adapter. I'll give you $50 plus shipping.

How about a decent cup holder. A flashlight.
