ABS Light, Brakes Fine???
After a day of installing electronic stuff and running wires in my 4Runner, this morning on the way to work my yellow ABS light came on.
It's a steady on (no blinking) and my brakes work fine. I do not know if the ABS works, I did not want to try and lock the wheels up in traffic and crash
Anyway, the fluid level is fine, there is apparently no fuse for the abs (there is a slot for it, but it has no metal contacts for a fuse and there was not a fuse to begin with) and a quick inspection yielded no visible damage.
What could be causing the fault? Can the scanner at AutoZone tell me (Its ODB1 I think). I know very little about the componets of ABS.
The fact that the light comes on after about 150 feet of driving (brake use irrelavent) tells me it may be a wheel sensor. Also, could it be realated to this issue?

Any help is appriciated.
Thanks!

Do you have 4 wheel abs or rear only abs?
It's probably throwing some trouble codes...check them. You just need to jump a connector and the dash lights will tell you the codes. Try a chiltons or haynes for the procedure.

And if somebody else with a 95 could check the under dash fuse pannel. Does yours have a label for a 15 amp rear ABS fuse, a plastic slot for an ATO blade fuse in the labels indiicated location but no metal contacts in the slot and NO fuse to begin with?
Thanks Guys!

I never got an owners book with my 95 but my 92 light said (REAR ABS) and this one on the 95 says (ABS). Also, the big huge module for the ABS underhood tells me its 4 wheel. I think all 95 had 4 wheel ABS?

I got it fixed. Turns out I inadvertantly put a sheet metal screw right through a bundle of wires under the carpet beneath the drivers seat while mounting some equipment. I removed the screw, repaired the wires and re-mounted the equipment. Everything is fine now.
Be careful when screwing into carpet guys, it hides important stuff in dumb locations.
