Squealing noise from tranny area?

I'm getting a high pitch squealing when my 4runna idles and when I excelerate. It goes away when I put in the clutch and dies down in the higher gears. I'm leaning towards the pilot bearing but I wanted to know if anybody has had something similar to this happen to them .Thanx

Maybe speedo cable? They connect at the xfer case, and have been known to make high squeeling noises before going bad. ....disconnect the cable, drive around without your speedometer and see if you have the noise still.
Oh and yes, I currently have this problem...it is horrible but I found out how to fix it. I turn the radio up.

Yeah I turned mine up too but my consciousness said "You know the noise is still there, FIX IT" I don't think it's the speedo cable cause it's only a few months old from Toyota.

conscious...what's that? Maybe check the cardigan joint. If there is play in it, the u-joints inside it are bad....those squeel when not lubricated enough. Get out the greese gun and give that a shot.

Pilot bearing. My Supra did the same thing--noise would go away when the clutch was in and would quiet down in higher gears. Replaced the pilot bearing and everything is quiet.

I'd be willing to bet it's the throwout bearing. Time for a clutch.

I just did the clutch when I put the 3.4 in. I may have tapped the pilot bearing too hard and damaged it. Just want to be sure before I pull the tranny and redo it. I may swap the throwout bearing also.
