are 96-01 body parts interchangable?

I just bought a 96 4runner with light damage I'm curious if I could pup all the newer 4 runner bumpers, fender flairs and everything to make it look newer.. Has anyone done this before? Is it just straight bolt on or is it more difficult? Thanks in avdvance

yup.

1996 to 2002 have the same body parts.

it's pretty much a straight bolt-on process. if you replace the front bumper, you will need the entire assembly with the new brackets for the swap.

the headlights and grill are direct fit, along w/ about everything else.

the flares are the same.

96-2002 limited runners have the same flares.

96-2000 SR5's w/ the small flares are the same

2000-2002 SR5's w/ the "fat flares" are like the limited flares but don't have door cladding.

you can put limited or SR5 fat flares on a SR5, but you can't put the small SR5 flares OR the SR5 fat flares on a limited.

hey thanks for the quick response! Now I'm pretty excited, this thing will look like an 02 =).. In your guys' opinion whats the best looking style or the most common conversion? would it be best to do a complete 02 bumper and fender flair conversion?

My opinion is to go for the 01-02 sport look. It has the fatter flares and the newer looking bumper but doesn't have the cladding. It also has the hood scoop. This look makes the truck more aggressive vs. the more luxury look of the limiteds with the cladding.

Let me tell you that doing this is not cheap unless you buy stuff off of here when others are selling for a good price or you find them in the junkyard. I've looked into bigger flares (I have the small SR5 ones) and the cheapest I could find would be Bushwackers. A set is about $400 plus painting and install. There are a few guys selling front bumpers here so that would be easy. If you want the limited look, you can buy cladding from the dealer but cheaper from Performance Products. I've looked into a bunch different ways to convert my '99 so let me know if you have more specific questions.

here's what a 99 limited looks like w/ color matched cladding/rearbumper/tagsurround, an 02 grill, scooped hood, Lexus LX450 wheels, and ARB bumper:

LOL. That picture of bamachem's truck is awesome. The front looks gnarly. However, that wasn't cheap. I'm sure he had the limited stuff already but trying to get there is painful or just big $.

1999 and 2000's the metal part of the front bumper was painted and the plastic wasn't and it had the small SR5 flares and a chrome grill. on 2001 and 2002, then entire front bumper was painted and it got the fat flares with a color matched grill.
