OK I just got off the phone with the stealership, they say the part I need is called a Water Temperature Sensor pn/ 89422 12010 but after doing more searching here I found this post https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...erature+sensor which calls it the temperature switch with the pn/ 89428 89101 is it possible this is the same part? Im going to flush the tube like this post says because when I changed my thermostat last week there was a bunch of black rubber gasket crap in the thermostat housing which could be the main cause of my OD issue, may not even need a sensor after all! Any help with these part numbers would be GREAT! The stealer wants $70 for the first part, I dont know what I need at this point!

 

It looks like the dealer PN 89422-12010 is for the gauges but Im not sure, the 89428-89101 pn just comes up as the temperature switch.. ARRRGGGHH I really wish I had a 5 speed, this is starting to get old

 

I've had this same problem for several years now - I changed the temp sender and cleaned the manifold of the black rubber looking pieces. My OD works fine in the spring and summer months - late fall and winter seems to either shift to OD slow or not at all. It has to do with temperature but I have not completely fixed mine. Watching this thread closely !!!!

 

OK I read some where that you can just un hook the temp sensor and the trans will shift into OD, not true. I just went home at lunch and first un plugged the temp switch "I think/hope".. If you climb up on top of your engine there are 3 sensors in a row behind the intake, according to the book the far left is the temp switch, the middle is the sensor. The switch is a 1 wire sensor, I first un plugged it and went for a quick drive, nothing. I drove home and plugged it back in and un plugged the sensor which is a 2 wire unit, I drove the whole way back to work with no OD..... To trick the ECU into thinking the engine is up to temp would you just jump the 2 wires leading to the sensor? I’m still not sure which one works with the trans, the dealer is no help at all, the Toyota books are no help and I keep finding info on both parts, I’m tempted to just change both but really don’t want to drop $200 on sensors if I don’t even know which one could be bad!

 

Anyone?? Anyone know of another resource that could help me out with these sensors?
