3.0 engine swap questions
So my friend just baught a 89 pickup with a 4 banger. He is looking to put in a 3.0 V6 and is wondering how much work it is. What does he have to do or are the mounts the same?

STOP
Nooooo.....bad
Now what did you learn
Seriously let me the first of many to say very bad idea, hardly any power gain, huge decrease in reliability, hard as hell to work on!!! If I were him Id keep the I4, but if he needs to change then do the 3.4. there are kits for it and the engine is much cheaper (beleive it or not). has wayyy more power, way more reliable. BUt you will need to fab your own mounts.
Does he have an auto.
BTW I have a 3.0 and my buddys 3.0 just croaked and we are finishing up a 3.4 swap

If its a stick then every thing is easier, You can find a 3.4 complete with ecu and all for under $1000 Ive seen them for $600 thats exactly what id do. Also they love superchargers. The 3.0's cost more bc everyone needs one!

Yeah, don't do a 3.0. Sorryest engine Toyota ever built. I would do a 3.4 or 7mgte from a supra (more work than 3.4, but another 100hp easy). Lexus 4.0 would be nice too, but that is even more involved I think--especially since you have a 5spd.

3.4 won't bolt up to a G52 or W56/58... He'll need an R151 or New/Old R150 tranny... And then an adapter to use the 4-cyl tcase.

Why not stick in a 2.7?
It will bolt in, it has some more power, it is less hassle since there is no tranny swap.

The 2.7 needs new motor mounts and a bellhousing from a W58, I believe, but otherwise is an easier swap, yes.

Go with the 2.7 or a 7MGE.
If your going to try the 3.4 you might as well go ahead and put a 1UZFE in it
.
The 3.0 really isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I have one and personally think it's not a bad motor. It's got 240,000 miles and is still going strong. Would it be worth swapping one in a truck? HELL NO! You'd have to be crazy to swap a 3.0 in a none 3.0 truck
