This came up before I think, but I read on a site yesterday that the Alpine version (not TRD) of the 2.7l s/c makes it as powerful as a s/c 3.4L. Is this true? The site seemed to think so. Anybody have a 2.7L w/ the alpine kit?

There are people on the Delphi National TTORA board (http://forums.delphiforums.com/tacomaterritory/start) who are running this set up. From what I have read, yeah, the 2.7 s/c will get you a bit more HP than the stock 3.4.

So, the 2.7sc would be a little more powerful than a stock 3.4 w/o the sc....But not more powerful than the 3.4sc right?

From what I have heard, that is correct.
The stock 3.4 in a 4Runner will provide 183 hp (Toyota's claim) and 190 hp in the Tacoma.
I've heard that a supercharged 2.7L (Alpine supercharger) will produce 193 hp. I don't know how correct that is, though.

I believe the TRD S/C will also get you up to the HP of a stock 3.4L. The Alpine nets you between 5-10HP over the TRD S/C.

Both the TRD and Alpine models are manufactured by Alpine. The one Alpine markets to the public is using the M90 blower, bigger than the M62 blower that the TRD model uses.

Anyway, that should answer your question...and bring up some new ones...

Nah, just takes time. I have been reading up on the 2.7L since I got my truck (back in early '00).

Despite the wealth of knowledge...there is much in the realm of falacy (sp?) out on the Internet. Buyer beware...

Just keep asking questions and you will get the knowledge you desire.
No sweat on these boards...(just be sure and search first, yada, yada, yada)...

I was driving today and I normaly don't look at my ODO as I need my glasses anyway to see the darn thing. But, it looked like 99999. I knew it was gonna turn soon, so I took my sunglasses off, put on my magnified specs, and saw the ODO turn to 100000. Very wierd feeling watching my 100k warranty dissappear. I hope to get that SC in my 4 banger one day. Who sells the Alpine SC?

Here's the website...
http://www.alpine-developments.co.za/

Looks like they do have a USA office now...

One other thing to mention...for everyone in California your only option is the TRD model. The Alpine model is not smog-compliant (I dunno if it really isn't capable of passing the test, but Alpine has not done so).
