02 sensor rip off....

I was thinking of getting a new 02 sensor since I think it is getting bad as I only get 15mpg... Anyways so I check prices and that POS is over $200 just for the precat one...

I need the CA emission pos one for my 00 4wd v6......

Anyone know where is the best place to get one pre cat CA 02 sensor?

URD has the denso one for like $215 shipped

Autozone list BOSCH OE for $262 plus tax or BOSCH universal for $105 plus tax...

I may lean towards the universal one. Anyone ever use a universal one??? How easy is it to wire up??? I know how to splice and connect wires... I thought my prev BMW having 4 oxygen sensors was a pita... Those were only $100 a pop for the OE ones...

On 99+ vehicles the precat sensor is actually an A/F sensor (different P/N and more expensive) vs a standard O2 sensor so I would be very careful about getting a universal sensor (many have had problems after install with the universals). If it were my vehicle and I was sure it was the front sensor that needed replacement, then I would go OEM for sure.

check here... http://www.sparkplugs.com/results_app.asp
It's better than bosch and pretty good prices.....the universals are easy just cut the plug off, strip and butt the wires together. Instructions will come with the o2 sensor you pick up....If you're worried about getting the wrong part just call your toyota dealer and ask for the part number then compare it to the ones on the list.

I can see what kind of deal I can get them for you if you want me to. SR5 or luxury edition? a/t or m/t? Also my bosch catalog only lists a universal sensor 2wd '00 4runner.

I ended up getting it from URD-USA. I have no idea how if affects CA smog... I hope the car wasn't refitted with the CA O2 sensor when it came to Cali...

That's what I was thinking. I don't know how you'd pass smog w/ an 02 sensor that is not California compliant. Oh well, someone told me that 01's and beyond don't even require smog; I don't believe him but that's what he told me.

I found the CA version for $170 but I'd like to find it a bit cheaper when mine does go out.
