I just bought this truck for $2000 it's very clean no rust with 124000 miles and 22re motor with 5spd. It drives pretty good but the engine does run a little rough, it makes a noise that comes and goes and it sounds like as if a leaf is stuck in a blower fan.(just sounds like that). And also it doesn't get up to temp like it should. I'm hoping that's just heat temp sensor and that's why it's running rough. But I'm not sure about the noise. Could it be a timing chain? I don't know if it was ever replaced. I know I should do it anyway.

 

Can you be more specific? Does it happen when the air is on? Is is a clicking, almost grinding noise that seems to increase with your engine speed? Or do you hear it at idle inside and outside the cab? Hopefully you can get some good suggestions. Sounds like a good find. I just bought a 91 4x4 22re myself. 122k clean.

 

Have you checked if there is something stuck in the blower fan?

 

Yes I have checked and it still makes the noise with the fan off. It will do it after I give I accelerate or while accelerating. It just comes and goes as I am driving. I've done some research and read that a bad egr valve can give you the same symptoms. And maybe the noise is valve noise?? I've never had a vehicle with valve noise so it's hard for me to tell
