I know it has been asked before, because I searched. I have a 2002 4runner that is 2wd and i want to make it look like a 4wd. I would like to gain about 1"- 1.5". What would be the easiest and cheapest way to do this? I have read about putting the 4wd coils in instead of the 2wd. Is that an easy operation? Please give me all the input you can. Thanks in advance.

 

yes its about as easy as you can get..... you swap the 2wd springs with the 4x4 springs..... or pay someone to do it if you cant do it yourself, but it is simple and easily done.....


my truck is an 85 and a 4x2.... people cant tell it from a 4x4, but i have done quite a bit of modifying

 

Or you can keep all the stock springs and shocks and put in a Revtek, Cornfed, or other type of spacer lift. Search based on these and you should find a ton of stuff. Better ride would be to upgrade the springs and shocks, which could set up back anywhere from $600 to over $1000 installed.

 

IMHO, you need more than 1" of lift to make your truck look like a 4x4. I also have a 4x2 and no one can tell it's not a 4x4. When driving down the street, people just see a beefed up 4x4 4Runner. I don't think 1" is going to make your 4x2 look agressive at all. Even with some nice tires. At first, I ran 31" ProComp muds with no lift and even though it looked better, it still didn't look mean. After adding 3.5" from a Downey coilover suspension lift ($1700+ by the way), it looked MUCH better. Since then, I have upgraded even more to 33" muds and another 2" of body lift. NOW it looks mean. I can actually boast that I have the biggest 4Runner in our county... and it's only a 4x2!!!

 

Does anyone know where to get 4wd coils and how much they would be? How is the ride changed with spacers or the coils?

 

The ride would be much improved with new coils and shocks. With my spacers and new shocks, it was definitely an improvement over stock (less bounce and more stiffness).

I think it's kind of a waste of time making your car 'look' like something else... 4x4 conversions are cool, but just for the look? You're paying for worse road handling characteristics, and tires that wear faster and cost more... What about a stereo, better shocks and coils, and some rims?

Let me rephrase want I want to do. I want to add about 1.5" of lift. What is the easiest and cheapest way to do it?

The reason why I said I wanted it to "look" like a 4WD is because they are about 1" higher than the 2WD stock. I like their stance, it looks a lot more aggressive than the stock 2WD.

If anyone has put a spacer lift on stock suspension or the 4WD coils on their 2WD please give any advice on the topic.
