anyone know where the adjustable throttle air by-pass screw is? I think the throttle body blade is closing too much when i let off the gas as the truck seems to slow down too quickly..

 

Have you tried doing a Search for "throttle by-pass screw"??

 

look on the thing where the throttle cable connects to the throttle body.....its right on that, theres one on the bottom that controls the idle, the one on the top is the one you want. I think you need a 7mm wrench (somethin close to that) and an allen key...not sure which one.

 

I don't think that would cause the problem you're conplaining about but....

Before you mess with it, clean your t/b first 'cause it should never need to be adjusted unless someone messed with it in the 1st place.

that sounds like your dash pot is not working properly or adjusted incorrectly.

it's the little plunger like thingie on the throttle body where the throttle linkage connects. it's purpose is to act like a sort of shock absorber to slow the closing of the butterfly (during the last portion of it closing)--to prevent the accumulation of unburned gas as well as to prevent the truck from slowing down too quickly when you let off the gas.

the FSM has a specific procedure for testing it. a quick test is to just open the TB by hand (where the throttle linkage connects) then let it slam shut. the dash pot should sort of "catch" the linkage (which is connected to the butterfly) at the end of the range of motion and then let it finish closing slowly (just like a shock absorber).

Throttle stop screw shold be turned in to contact the fully closed throttle then turned 1/4 rotation farther in and the lock nut tightened.
