Here is my attempt at a writeup. Please forgive if it isn't overly useful.


Donor Truck: 1993 S10 Blazer w/Vortec 4.3 V6 motor. Vin type W


First things first. Had to Clean the shop.


Then made sure the engine ran. Which it did quite well.

Then for marking all wires. I put a piece of masking tape around each wire with a number on it. I took a picture of each # and wrote down where they went on the motor.


After all wires accounted for, time to start plucking them all out (what a mess)


And pull the motor:


Once motor out, time to bolt on the TH350:


and the NP203:


Altogether and look'n good.


Next for the even dirtier stuff, the Yota.

 

Had to pull the stock 22r out:


Sandblasted the engine compartment and re-sprayed it:


Now thats all clean, time to put in the Vortech:


Make sure the transfer case is centered with the old transfer case:


And for attaching the Mounts http://www.advancedadapters.com :


The mounts are 19.5 inches from the longest point on the frame. That gave me a little less then 2" of clearence between the firewall and the distributor. Plenty to get it on and off and run all my fuel lines.

Is there a doubler in the future? Otherwise I don't understand why you went with a 203...

 

I have some rough hills between my house and my fishing hole. Pulling my bass tracker was just kill'n the ole 22r. so I pickedup the 4.3 for next to nothing. I traded my worn out stock manual drivetrain for $500 and a TH350 brand new rebuilt with 1yr warranty and the np203. The bolt-on ability without adapters was worth the downgrade. (guy has good money and his son blew his last motor)

Doublers is definately in my future. just not immediately.

I've been wanting to go automatic anyhow for the mere fact that i weigh close to 300lbs and shifting gears while sideways while trying to keep gas in the carb has just become too aggravting for me

Cool! I remember when I wanted to do this swap, my girlfriend at the time had a clean 4.3 s-10 blazer for a donor and then wrecked it.
It was a bummer, but I'm too much a noob for this kind of work anyway.

I actually got the engine running. Didn't have the oil cooler on it though (DUH!!) so oil went everywhere. Was kinda rough but I'm guessing that was because it was open manifold so it had no back pressure, O2 sensor or the intake sensor wasn't on it either

I will do some pics this week. I have put 4" lift YJ rears up front and 63" chevy springs in the back. its ALOT taller now. I'm getting excited.

Stuff left is Finishing the x-over steering, radiator/oil & tranny cooler mounting, permanently mounting chevy gas tank. Then its off to the drive shaft shop. Then off to the exhaust shop. Then bring it back for mounting the front shock hoops(still gotta buy some shocks too), put on the extended brake lines.

Started to mount the '86 pwr steering box tonight but while drilling the mounting holes the drill is going so getting a heavier one to use tomorow night.

..........having a hard time getting the radiator to fit with the pwr steering box.
