ok i have a 96 4runner and everything suspension wise is stock right now. i want to fit a decent set of 35's on there but they only catch is that i dont want a body lift. any comments appreciated

I think that brucets on these boreds is running 35's with a total chaos long travel kit and only a 1 inch body lift.

 

Didn't Steve Shaeffer run the equivalent of 35's just before he did the SAS? I don't know if he will still be able to get PMs with his guest status but shoot him a PM.

 

The only way you can run 35's without a body lift is to do some major cutting in the front wheel wells, even then the tires will rub against the frame rails during full lock. The rear wheel fenders will rub unless you cut or pound them out. At 1" there will be some rubbing and portions of the front fender have to be cut off. Personally you really need at least a 1 1/2" body lift with minor front wheel well clearancing, the back will clear, but the rear bumper will need to be trimmed. The only other way is to run a suspension lift to gain clearance.

I have a Total Chaos long travel kit, which gives me the additional space, so when I turn my steering full lock there is no rubbing.

 

SAS it or change your mind about the BL....

 

 

You could do a 6" drop bracket lift and clearance as much of the fenders and wheelwells as possible...a body lift makes it much easier...

 

Steve has a 1" body lift as well, plus whatever suspension lift and fender trimming he had before.

 

Body lifts are sooo easy to install. They look good. They are strong. You get extra clearance without having to sawzall everyhting. Oh and 4crawler BLs are inexpensive and

I chose to go with a 1" body lift. I am not a fan of body lifts, but turns out that when used properly with other mods, it is a very valuable and easy way to go.

By the way, if you plan on putting 35's on, you have a lot more items to think about than a 1" BL. For example, you will rub on the upper A unless you trim or go wild with backspacing (not recommended) or change the arms. You will probably want to get re-geared (oh, and if that diff is open, why not put in a locker?....You get the idea...).
