What's this funky bump on the rear diff?

It just suddenly showed itself tonight

The strange thing is, it ended up finding it's way under my truck and making itself right at home

Guess all I need to do now is give it some fluids and some power then it'll be happy Since I got back from my Arizona trip 2nd week of July, I have put a TRD posi in the front (plus rebuilt everything) and now an '03 Tacoma e-locker in the back. Both have been fitted with brand new 4.56 gears. Didn't get any pictures of the cutting that needed to be done to the housing but it's easy to figure out with the gasket. Quite happy with the way it's turned out so far and can't wait till I hit the trail to try it out

Just finished wiring everything and it works! What a tedious job doing the wiring and thinking something wasn't right when the little red light didn't come on. Jacked up the back, put it in gear then flicked the switch it locked up and unlocked with ease

Got it from a local Toyota recyler. The locker came out of a wrecked Tacoma along with the little harness. Ring gear had about 5 teeth missing so had a friend set up the new gears. Might go try it out tomorrow if I have time, it's drag racing day today for my car Can't wait till winter rolls around to go play in the snow again. It'll be interesting to see how I do this year. Didn't have a whole lot a problems last winter which really surprised me and the guys I went wheelin with.

Took the truck out for a short little jaunt today and all I can say is WOW what a difference. First test was a hill that I could never get up before since a couple wheels would always start spinning. I just drove up it this time like it was nothing. Got to another spot with a wheel up in the air and drove out no problem. Very glad I did this and can't wait to see what it does in the snow this year

yeah, details details details. I know we usually are hammering people for pictures but since you got that one down give us the low down on this toyota salvage place and such.

T.A.P. Recyclers in Rancho Cordova CA. I'm not sure what the going price is but I paid $510. That included the locker and paying a buddy to setup the brand new gears. Another friend told me there are places that sell these at around $480 on the net. Basicly, get the gasket and long studs from Toyota. Use the gasket as a template for notching out the housing. Dimple the rear of the housing to make room for a locking bolt for the side adjusting ring. Slide the 3rd member into place and make a bushing to fit over a drill bit to keep it straight in the hole for the 4 new stud holes you have to drill. The housing mods take about an hour to do. As for wiring, I just bought the control kit from inchwormgear.com instead of making my own. The buddy who set the gears up made his own harness a little different but it's closer to what Toyota themselves use. Too bad he's lost the schematic

Here's a couple more pictures when I was cleaning things up.

Took the truck out again this time in a little rougher stuff than just driving up a steep hill with ruts at the top. There was a few times where 1 or 2 wheels would come off the ground The friend I went with has open front and rear diffs, some spots gave him a little grief but not me. At one point, I got hung up on the trans crossmember and was spinning all 4 wheels but got out fine in reverse. Think the next couple things are sliders and a budbuilt crossmember to get a little more clearance.
