Anyone out there can give me an idea what kind of mileage I should get in town stop and go with the above truck, it has the 22R carb, 5spd and is stock?

anywhere from 12 to 21....

typically around 18-19 I'd say, more if you get some highway driving in, less if you are a leadfoot or like to rev it an extra time or two as you get ready to let the clutch out, that sort of thing.

also depends on how well tuned it is, tire size, stuff like that of course.

if it's stock and running well, i'd expect about 18-22mpg.

Wow, I just put in a rebuilt engine about 600 miles ago and am only getting 10mpg although I once got 12mpg. Any ideas as to why my milage is so bad? Any and all help will be appreciated.

I would think they have seated by now.

How many pistons did they put back in it?

When I bought my first new 4x4 Yota (a shiny black 1985 SR5 std cab 4x4 5sp) I only got about 14 mpg at first. I kept complaining to the dealership where I got it, and they did nothing ("Mileage isn't warrantable...") I took it to another dealership. THAT service manager said "Buls**T you should not get 14mpg..." and they handed me some coveralls and invited me out to the shop and I watched while they tore into it. Found a defective head gasket - it had a sort of folded-over place in it. They put in a new one, checked the valve adjustment, put it back together and said "try that and if it doesn't improve come back and we'll dig deeper." It went to 20-21 ish, right where my father's and all my other Yota ownin' friends was. I traded that for a 85 4Runner SR5 5sp, and it got 20.something nearly every tankful for 15 years. As much as 24 on highway trips.

Prior to that I had a 1977 SR5 longbed 5sp (2wd of course, and the first vechicle I put flamed on) and got 25-27 around town and 30-31 on highway trips.

my '84 2wd got about 30mpg on the freeway, and 25-27 in town. i think i'm gonna look for another one like it, as i just got approved for a $5000 auto loan.

only problem is, i just got a letter that basically said, "by the way, here's the rules" and found they won't finance anything with over 100k on the clock. which basically rules out any toyota pickup i could buy entirely with the loan. and i had my heart set on a little red '90 4x4 with the V6, for $3500

Not long ago I did the Lending Tree thing
and there were no restrictions at all. Interest rate was awesome, and the transaction was a breeze. Approval after applying online took about 30 minutes!
