4.88's or 5.29's?

Im going to be running 33 inch kuhmo ventures and i'm wondering if i should go with the equivalant (to current 4.10' with stock 235/75) 4.88's or bulk it up or down depending on how you see it to 5.29's...i plan on running a TRD level 1 cam and headers (already have intake and exhaust) I'm getting 19-22 mpg now stock and its as slow as this nations leader...I know the 5.29's will pep up the hill climbs but how bad will it slaughter my gas mileage...I'm really paying attention to that now with gas at $2.60 a gallon and climbing every night. This will be my daily driver until i get my XR600 road/dirt bike.

If its your daily driver and your concerned about gas prices then theres no question 4.88s are what you want.

Yea yea yea...I've decided with the 4.88's, I'd like pep up hills but Im doing more straight away driving than hill climbing and i'd like to keep my RPMs reasonable...Especially with full exhaust, I don't want to sound like a pissed off honda in heat.

Running lowered gears doesn't affect gas mileage. I am running 4.88's with my 28 inch tires, and get the same milieage i got before the swap.

RPMs will be high, but power will be much increased.

with a 33, 4.88's are still geared slightly lower than stock. You will have only marginally better power than your truck did at it's stock tire size.

My mileage has gone up slightly with 5.29 + 33" tires. If you lived (1) at higher altitude or (B) in the mountains, I would say consider 5.29. IIRC, you live at sea level on the east coast, I would probably stick with 4.88. I do like my combination, but my truck is not driven everyday. I drive it occasionally to work, but mainly just when the weather is bad or just as a change of pace. Otherwise, it's just used for work around the house and as a recreational truck, so I can live with lower gears. Figure your RPMs will be about 250 +/- higher with 5.29 over 4.88 at a given speed.
