To snorkel or not to snorkel??

I have a 1990 4 Runner with a '99 3.4 motor, K&N intake, Downey headers and a 2 1/2" exhaust. I'm thinking of addeding a snorkel to the truck but was wonder ing if anyone knew if there would be a performance/power loss switch from the K&N to the snorkel?

Dusty roads (longer filter life or change intervals)

Most peeps just think they're for fording water but they really keep the intake higher up off the ground which gives a better chance for colder and cleaner air. Specially if following another vehicle on a dirt road. From the terrian in your avatar, you may benefit from one as well.

I actually notived a power gain with my snorkel, The truck idles better, and its giving me better MPG.

I think the K&N Filter was sucking in to much HOT air from the engine bay.

It is now in the garbage

brucets could sure answer this question.

if there's an easy way to have some peace of mind when charging the puddles or the eventual possibility of crossing some deep water, why not?

I guess I'm a very good example, why someone in SoCal needs one....... hydrolocked with 3 broken rods.....does that ring a bell? Now my internal system doesn't affect mileage one way or the other, but does give peace of mind if I ever need to make a water crossing, I can......

Last winter I managed to give it a very good workout on our jobsite, there was an average of 2 feet of standing water everywhere. So I just had to screw in the deckplate and went blasting around, water went everywhere except the intake, eventually my alt died and I had to stop. Too much muddy sandy water had entered it and jammed up the brushes. A few taps with a hammer freed them and off to more fun in the wet. Here's a few shots on just how much water we had to deal with. My rig is parked next to 3, 8" lines that go to pumps running 24/7 keeping out the water from the work area. The dozer shows the work area.......
