What to do when you remove stock Bumper BUILD Checker Plate Bumperplate

Removed your Stock Bumper ? Building a Tube Bumper ? Wheres what to do with the Ugly part under the Bumper

This is the part Im talking about

Okay here is the start of the Build. I posted the Cardboard Template I made this from on my Web Site, Simply Tape Image A, B and C together, and you Weld Piece D Onto C, There will be some grinding envolved to make everything fit perfect. Ahh Heck heres the link. http://www.mudrunner.ca/bumperplate/bumperplate.zip

As you can see here you have to bend over ther rear section with a BFG, and Bend the Front up a bit, to match the contour of the Rig

Side by Side Pic

Here you can see where I welded the two pieces together (I Had no Gas so the weld are not that pretty)

and the ALMOST finished product... Still have to bend the Lower lip over, and weld the cuts. (I dont know why I left this for last) (And Yes thats the start of my rear tube bumper in the background. thats comming soon)

I will post pics tommorrow of it installed on my truck

Thoughts ? Ideas ? Suggestions ? Flames ?

I am suffering from that problem too...

I just cleaned and waxed the area so it better matched the rest of the truck--gave me an excuse to wax the rest of it too.

Okay got the edges bent over. Still gotta grind and weld a bit.

I'll update the template tommorrow if I have time, with the cut marks, folding lines, and screw holes.... it mounts using the old bumper bracket holes.

To bend I just cut some lines and notches. Layed it over a 6x6 piece of wood and beat it silly with a BFG. And I didn't even smash any toes.

Ill take some pic's tommorrow at lunch of it mounted.

Some pics of it Mounted on the truck. Still have to grind and weld the folds over, and bash it with a hammer some more for it to follow the body lines a bit better, But you get the Idea

Still havent revised the template yet, Maybe tonight. Ill try and get a pic with the Tube Bumper on aswell.

When did looks become important? It looks like a mud and moisture trap to me, I bet the body rots out in a year, escpecially due to the fact that however you fasten it to the truck (weld or screw) is going to be hard to paint so it will be the starting point for the rust. Sorry just my .02 I was always wondering (with how much you like to tinker with your rig) when you were going to ditch that stock rear bumper.

I need to adjust the mud flaps...maybe have them come out and cover the tires so I don't get a ticket .

Not here all weekend going wheeling in Parry Sound so Ill have pics of that when I come back and more of the bumper and build

Oh and If adjusted the exhaust just after these pics I'm debating on notching the bumper plate out and and running the exhaust threw the bumper

TO LATE. That part of the truck allready rotted out a long time ago (We salt our roads crazy style here) They have been Mono Foamed and patched for awhile (I love mono foam, fill gaps, repairs holes, helps insulate and best of all... helps the truck "float
