I have a friend who just pulled a ford 3.0 efi v6 out of his pre runner in order to make room for a chevy small block , my question is anybody heard of one of these ranger motors going into a solid axle 84? would be the awesome since i can get the motor for next to nothing.

v6, efi, and solid axle...im drooling already

thanks for the info

You have the 22R, right?
Why give up the solid reliability of a 22R for a Ford engine?

Unless, of course, you have no engine in there currently. Definitely better than nothing.

Yes there are several companies that have the stuff to do it but it is not a do it your selfer unless you know what you are doing lots of cutting and welding and modification, new suspension and stuff like that you are still looking at $1500 to $2000.

Also i have noticed about 3-4 of your threads and all of the q's you asked could be found by doing a search on them. Just a FYI. not being a hard a**.

Try NWOR, Downey and something(?) Adapters.

Advance adapters...

I second Tacoma Dude...I mean, you are on a Toyota forum, and that tends to bias us a bit. 100,000 miles is low mileage on a toyota, but that's high for a ford. Both of my friends who had fords, one had a ranger with the same engine as you, and one had a bronco...Both blew (cracked the block) at around 120,000. I wouldn't put that POS in there for anything...Fords suck...no two ways about it...i can see a small chevy V8 though, get a crate long block... Be real nice...again, you'd have reliability issues, but you'd have a whole lotta power...

Really, get the engine, sell it, and use the money to get a 3.4L from Jasper, or from a junkyard, and do a swap that way...Much better investment.

you make me laugh, seriously there are rangers running around with well over 200k on there ford 3.0 and have had no problems and the owners say they are the best trucks they have ever owned. if he wants to use that motor let him its his rig.

Glad i could provide some entertainment

Never said he couldn't, just said i didn't recomend it. I'm sure there are rangers out there with over 200k, just like there are a few people who live over 100, and a few less who win the lottery...It happens, its not the norm...I've personally known about 25 people who've owned fords and all have died before 150k...2 of which i mentioned in my last post, one of which had the same ford engine as he's talking about...I've never known a single ford owner who was pleased with the reliability of his or her car...

That being said, if this guy wants to put the ford motor in his truck, I've got no beef with that...All i said was that i wouldn't do it, based upon my own experiences with the ford motor company...

already check AA's and the northwest place, doesn't seem like the ford 3.0 is popular at all...i see plenty of 4.3 and v8 adapters but not ford v6 ones...thanks for putting up w/ the newbie hehe

If you are going to use a ford v6, at least use the 4.0L.....the 3.0 is as underpowed as the toy 3.0

Agreed I've owned a few Rangers and the 4.0L defintly is the better choice, But if your gonna spend the money on the swap, why not put a V8 in there, 302,351,350. I know a guy whos got a fuel injected 302 in his jeep and it works fine

why not just drop a 4.0L Jeep I6 in it? that way you'd get an engine that actualy worth the money of the conversion...Ford's no Shivy, but it's damn close... I understand the origin of your question, you've go the otor acessible, and it SEEMS like a good upgrade, but seriously, you could source a 22RE or 22RTE, and end up with a really erliable little motor that

A) Gives you more power than you currently have
B) Gives you reliability that you probably won't get out of the ford
C) Won't require you to do any fabing (although it is really fun) and will bolt straight in for the most part...

Edit: I just read the last post...a fre motor is never a bad thing...if it's free, that's a hard bargain to pass up... now I don't know what to tell you... I'm still not a 3.0 Ford fan, but damn FREE... try turbocharging it...that could be fun.

Cheers and No worries

Dave
