How do I make Rock Sliders?

I don't want to spend bucco-bucks on a pair of rock sliders, but really really want some. So... I have decided to attemp to make my own. I've never made anything like this before and I have no clue as what to use for the tubing. I pretty much know how to make a pair, I just need to figure out what materials to use.

And if anybody has any pointers on how to make them good and sturdy, please let me know.

I offer mine in kit form:

With the mini-kit, you suppy the long outer tubes (saving a bundle on shipping).

With assembly instructions:

Go there, and ask to see their "remenants" section. They have a huge bin of all sizes and shapes metal that were leftover from previous cuts....ect. Fairly cheap considering the price of new steel.

Forty eight dollar sliders, and the most functional I've seen: 2x2 square 11 gauge thick. buy 12 foot of the stuff. Cut six 10.5" slider legs, and a two 56" (I think) pieces. Weld together. Weld to frame. Cheap, easy, functional and look GREAT if painted correctly. I recommend gusseting them with some 1/4" thick flat stock steel.
Good luck .

Well most people will use either 0.120"(1/8") or 0.188" (3/16") wall steel tube. If you really intend to abuse the sliders I'd stay with 0.188. More square tube is used since nobody wants to deal with notching tube. What steel have you bought so far?

If you end up welding to the frame be sure that you are confident in your skill or find someone who is. Bolting on is an option. Your mounting should account for any potential flexing of the sliders in toward the body, ie not too close. If you want them to look go take your time and check the fit constantly.

So far the steel I have bought is, 15 ft. 3/16" 2x2 and 10 ft 1/8" 2x1 for the outer bar.

Thanks for the info on the welding to the frame. I was gonna go that route, but now I think I'll do bolt on or Robinhoods "C clamp".

If there is anybody in the denver area who would help me weld these together and install them. Please send me a PM!

The C-clamp is a fairly big pain in the but to make, the tolerances have to be pretty tight. The easiest is weld on followed by the 4crawler style bolt on.
