what could this rattling noise be

when i am going about 5 or 10 mph through a parking lot or something there is a loud rattling nosie comming from the front drivers side of the car. sounds like it is comming from the tire but im not really sure. me and a buddy of mine were out trying to figure out what it was today but we couldnt find anything. we jacked that side up and turned the tire to see if we could find it but we heard nothing. but when we kinda pushed on the tire we could hear it barely but couldnt trace it back to anything. does anyone know what it might could be? thanks, Jarrod

Join the club. Do you hear the rattling when you go over speed bumps or potholes? I'm still trying to locate it.

This is what you do...
Have somebody get on a skateboard and hold on to the bottom of the truck while you are driving down the road listening for the location of the sound. You should be able to find it pretty fast. Actually I am kidding, but somebody did this here in Ohio earlier this year. The guy got paralyzed and wonders why? Hmmmm, maybe cause you were a freakin idiot comes to mind. Anyhow, I have the same noise on my 93 P/U 3.0 manual 4wd truck too. Part of the noise, which I solved and fixed, was the brake load proportioning cable in the rear of the truck. One of the brackets had come loose. I fixed this and the noise stopped in the rear, but there is still a noise up front. I am still looking. If anybody has any ideas let me and everybody else know.

I've got this rattle over bumps after changing my brake pads. They rattle against the caliper. Nothing more than a mild annoyance, only hear it when the windows are down over rough spots in the road. I used the factory backing plates, but they still make noise. I think there's stuff you can smear on the brake pads to keep them quiet, but it's not enough of a bother for me to do this. This is just an idea as to what it might be on your rig(s).

front spindle inner factory bushing? i have the same noise...check out the tech section under maintenance for spindle bushing and the guy even has a sound clip that you can compare it to. Good way to check is jack up the front drivers side and pull back and forth on the cv and see if its loose next to the spindle. The article is fully explained if this is your problem.

i listened to that sound clip and that is the exact noise it is making. i read the write up and thats alot to do and knowing me i would mess something up. to be on the safe side i better just put it in the shop and let them do it. its been doing this for a while now i just hope it stays about like it is not for about another few weeks so i can get some cash up to repair it. could i of messed anything up by driving on it so long bad?

I have drove mine for over a year like this. Since I have got these super swampers it has gotten a considerable amount worse. I'm going to have to change mine out soon along with my cv's for heavier duty. Just saving the money...but you should be fine as long as nothing has locked up yet!

I have exactly that, sounds like the exhaust or the spare tire jumping around. I tightened up the spare though, so it shouldnt be that, its really annoying since i cant figure it out, lol

I know this is a big "duh" but if you have a hitch in your receiver, it'll rattle.
