Success! No more diesel sounding engine

I came home on Sunday and finally decided I needed to adjust the valves just so that I could rule out them as a problem. In case anyone does not know, I have been experiencing a very noisy engine. In fact I thought that I had a loose rod or something. Upon examination of the valves, turns ou that #4 and #6 exhaust valves were REALLY tight. So much so that I could not get a feeler gauge in there.

Anyway fired her up this morning with no problems. After warm up I can barely here a ticking noise. I may have loosened a intake valve too much.

I am so happy I could kiss this computer. Next up: timing. Then onto camping with my honey!

My guess is that it's a V6 but you need shims to adjust the valves.

No, it is the 4. I loathe the six. I would rather put in a corvair engine before I would even look at the 6.

Yeah it's a PITA to work on. I did an injector swap that took 7hrs but I ran into problems and it was my first time. Dealer quoted 4hrs to do it.

I'm pretty sure the 3.4 uses lifters instead of rocker arms like the 22re's do. Lifters make it a real PITA to adjust the valves.

Yes, the 3.4 uses the hydraulic lifters. It is possible to DIY, but not easy. I had to take mine to a machine shop!
