Spraypainting truck black...affraid
so my 4runner (88) has a lot of scratches in the paint. I cant afford a REAL paintjob right now, so I was thinking of spraypainting it FLATBLACK, to get through the summer and a few months. IM affraid it wont come out well though. I have heard that flat black looks good, and i liek flat black. Do you have pictures or tech articles on doing this. Anyhelp would be GREAT!!!

If you are going to do that just use black primer. I'd be careful with spraypaint as you will probably get runs and light spots in it. You should look into prepping a vehicle for paint. It's pretty easy. It's basically just taping off or removing anything you don't want painted. I'd do that and then get a quote from a shop to primer your prepped vehicle. It shouldn't be very expensive.

maybe you should try and polish the paint and get some of the scratches out.

Buff it out a bit and save money to paint it.
That's what I would do anyways.

I agree, it will look sweet, but not respectable (whatever that is)

i htink it will look like crap... primer absords too much stuff.... and making it gloss is going to make the imperfections worse... i say try to buff it out and leave it alone, if there are no horrid spots of cancer rust howing....

Agreed. Buff out the scratches. Even if they won't buff out, I won't be able to see them from 10 ft. away. Primer/flat black ghetto paint job?
I'll see that 100 ft away. Just my opinion.. My car is immaculate but my truck has plenty of scratches. ITS A TRUCK. It doubles as a hunting rig and mudpuppy. Its your truck. You are the one that is going to have to drive it either way.

Take it a detail shop and ask them if how much to buff it out, and what percentage of the scratches it will take care of. chances are they will tell you if it worth it-most place like repeat business.
(Getting the finacee's CRV buffed on saturday for $75, sure, i could buy a polisher and try and do it myself, but I'd rather space out, its saturday).
