No need to freak, it's a common problem. Where EXATCLY is it leaking from? From where the drive shafts connect? Front or rear?

Rear shaft seal is pretty common. Also the seal on the speedo reduction gear. The speedo is easy...1 hour or less. Rear shaft takes longer.

Im glad you brought this up. im at 140k ish miles and my t-case has just started leaking...and now that i think about it, i have had a little vibration in my tranny (5speed) maybe cause low oil...its my rear shaft seal.

Any tips on how to fix this, the best way?

Mine looks like it is leaking - but its not-the oil is coming from oil pressure sensor-you may want to check that.

update..they have to pull the tcase off and they cant do it till 2marrow...Ive been driving my dads 01 runner its great but i still want mine back asap. Im getting all the fluids changed out while the are under there and they are gonna stick in my new marlin crawler shifter seat and bushing. Hopefully when i get it back it will be shifting like new..This is starting to make sense as late in winter my tcase would be funky in 4wd and going up hills it would pop out unless i would hold the shifter.

what is this costing you? in my honest opinion for problems like that best bet is to educate yourself as much as possible and try it yourself. then if you cant finish the job take it into the shop.. just dont break anythign in the process.

not costing me much because my dad knows the guy that owns the shop and i dont have the time or the tools to do this.

If i had the time and tools i would do this but right now i dont.

also, i still dont own my 4runner, my dad does, so he has the final word

eventually ill buy it off of him

Mine started leaking awhile back. It was coming from the shaft seal that drives the front driveshaft. Apparently they're notorious for getting water in them and then lightly rusting the shaft which tears up the rubber seal. A little emery cloth and a quick swap of the seal and it's good to go.

mandrel bent, $150... good deal! get some specs for for a cold air intake and have them mandrel bend you a custom 3" intake while theyre at it.. prolly be cheaper while there at it instead of doing it later.. itll give you more power and better mileage.

well im still truckless...i HOPE i get it back tommrow but im not really missing the extra power of my dads 3.4l...if i did a 3.4 swap into my truck with my gearing and supercharged it...this thing would climp the speed pretty damn quick....

when i get it back the exhaust will come probably next week when i get my paycheck.

i got my truck back FINALY...tranny case needed a gasket and the shifter needed a spring or something because it kept popping out of 4WD...well thats all fixed up and i already managed to be offroading durring a tornado....haha just found that out today. I should have figured it out from the flying logs and branches and dirt in the air.

...anyways the assclown att meinkie told my dad $135 exactly for pipes..quoted me $200 and told me that i need to buy a high flow cat for $200 from him or else its not going to work. i didnt feel like arguing so i said ok ill think about it and left.

anybody know of another good muffler shop around pittsburgh?

fromthe picks it looks like you could use some lift for the back.. and new tires before putting dollars into the motor for 4 wheelin reasons..
