what's tig/arc inverter?
i seen an ad says:
130Amp, 220V Tig/Arc inverter.
Includes tig torch, arc torch, arc electrode holder, ground clamp, gas hose, other crap
so is this a system that can be used as an arc welder and a tig welder? or is there more to it, besides the gas? i was wonderin because the case looks very small compared to my arc welder. Thanks for input.

It shouldn't be very big, after all its only 130 amp. Tig welding is done with AC typically or DC current sometimes and arc is done DC so it probably has a dc transformer and an ac inverter, I imagine. Sounds like a combo unit to me, but, who makes it? and how much they want? These type welders typically are not on the cheap side.

inverter type welders are mainly for TIG welding but make very good DC stick machines. they are typically small and very portable compared to their transformer counterparts. some examples are the miller maxtar or dynasty series.
chicago electric is the harbor freight brand. some people have good luck with their equipment, others dont. i would look around for a used unit. i got my maxstar for less than half of what a new one would cost

Just gone and done it, now I need to make some room in my garage and add 230v subpanel. I ordered a Miller Syncrowave 180SD TIG Welder today! I've been wanting one for a while now and have been putting in a ton of overtime at work lately............ next a plasma cutter.

Cebby, how do you like yours? The only thing that worries me is the 40% duty cycle, but considering that I don't plan on doing the bulk of my welding with it, I figured it would do fine. I'm gonna build a rack to have my smaller Mig mounted above the Tig on a cart.

Bruce, I haven't gone bananas with it yet, so I haven't run into the duty cycle issue. I like it alot for steel. I'm still getting the hang of it with aluminum - good welds, just not pretty yet.
Do you have it yet? It is a real ball-buster. One heavy mo-fo.
I'm going to add to my cart to perch a plasma over top of the TIG unless I decide to spring for a cooler first.
