Will the Tacoma get the new 4.0L V6?

My wife wants a new Tacoma double cab in the near future. I am probably going to sell our Camry and get one in 1 to 1 1/2 years. Does anyone know if Toyota is planning on putting the 2003 4Runner's 4.0L V6 into the Tacoma. The increased power would be a reason enough for me to wait.

That is what my dealership told me last August.
WATRD (Rob) may have more info.

Also, rumor has it the 4 door cab wil also get the full length bed instead of the shorty is has now.

I knew that they would offer a 6 foot bed right after I bought my D-cab.

I am awaiting some more information on the new 04 Tacoma as I will be looking to purchase a truck in October. I have also heard of the 4.0l and the 4.7l as well as the longer bed. Also heard it will be larger than current ( I assume along the lines of the 03 Runner). Can't wait for the pics. They can leave the grey plastic off.

I have heard that the new tacoma will no longer be classified as a compact truck. It will be biult on a much larger frame. Possibly the 4Runner but the article did not say. I t did not say anything about engines but there will be the same choices in body configurations as now.

Thanks for the info guys.

I assume that with the styling, engine, and size changing, the price will also go up.

It's going to change for 2004

I was recently informed by a dealership employee that if you like the current Tacoma platform for off-road use, that you better get one before they change it. As mentioned, it is going to become a bulkier truck, and I got the impression it is going the way of more street - less offroad. I hope I'm wrong!

Well I may wait for Toyota to start building the new tacoma, and then buy the "older style" at a discounted price.

Just before the new 4Runners came to Utah, the local dealers were discounting 2002 4Runners 5k.

i may be alone on this but i love the short bed of the quad cabs.
for example the nissan 4 door frontiers look hideous with the long bed they just look absurdly long. i like the short ones much better.

Yea, I like the look of the short bed.. But the only reason I got a truck is to haul motorcycles around... It'd be easier with the long bed

I tend to agree. I only need my bed to be bigger once in a great while. The new Frontiers do look out of proportion. Plus they think they are cool with that wimpy 210hp supercharged motor. I got a surprise for them...

Me too. It helps when the general manager of the dealer is your landlord. Too bad that every penny that he saved me went right back into accessories.
