Cool Awesome 980HP 3RZ-FE engine ...

Came across these images of the 3RZ-FE (the 4cycl engine in the 4Runners and Tacomas) while doing some research on turbos. It's being used by Christian Rado's race ready Celica.

3RZ Image 1
3RZ Image 2

The image says 1000HP but Rado's site (http://www.world-racing.com/rides/celicafwd_index.htm) states 980HP. What do you guys think?

That is nuts. What is that like a T-100 turbo. I don't know about you but I would love to have a turbo that was the same size as my motor.

UUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM....wow! 1000 ponies is crazy. I would imagine that if you rebuilt the engine with the highest quality stuff it might handle it. It's kinda hard to believe that, from what I see, a stock block could handle that much horse power. I don't know, maybe it can.

I will take 980...hmm...even 900hp would be Ok by me...

Actually, I think I would have to keep the HP much lower for it to stay alive and be my daily driver.

Seriously though, they could make a few bolt on kits to boost the HP (slightly, 50-100hp...) and have many buyers...

What's amazing is that they say they use the stock crankshaft. Talk about overbuilt.

Talking

Can you imagine that engine in the 4Runner?

I love the way they did the piping from the exhaust manifold into the turbo. Makes me all eager to get my turbo setup (although mine will be a baby compared to that thing)

At least I know my 4 banger has potential! I always had a thing for the 4 cylinder...Datsuns and Toys. This is the biggest 4 I owned, it's smooth and has decent power. The fact that this motor can be built to get 1K horses, is proof of the solid design and strength the little 4 has. I hope to get the SC one day...

That sucker looks like it takes a lot of engine load to spool.
But when it's spooled, watch out!

Looks like a high rpm power motor. The low rpm must feel dead though.

I took the Supra to the drags on Sunday and got to ride in a 660 hp Supra Turbo. I can't begin to describe how insanely quick that car was. He spun through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears and was finally able to floor it in 4th. Ride of my life. I can't imagine what an extra 300 hp must feel like.
