tough desisions!!!!

ok...ive been looking for a 4runner for about 4 months now to mod for strickly rock crawling. i found two today for the right price... both are 87s with HIGH miles 5spds 4x4 .... one i can get for 500 it has a v6 with a blown head gasket and i will need to tow it home and rebuils the engine...the other is perfect just a messy interior. with a engine rebuild 100k miles ago. it has aftermarket headers also.. full tranny rebuild with clutch and bearings by a reputable shop done 1500 miles ago he wants 1500..what should i get

i say get the v6.... its more work to do the head gaskets, as there is 2 of them... but the v6 is a lot sttronger of an engine..... i thought the v6 didnt come out until 89? also both are ifs front ends, not solid axles

i decided to go with a post 85 due tot he fact of the efi better prices and the steering box...it will have a solid axle on it soon. the reason i am thinking about the 4 banger is because i dont need the power for rock crawling and the 4 banger is a much more relable car....

But with not alot of work you can have that 4 banger putting out close to the hp and or torque of that V6

I say go for the 4 Banger for reliability reasons only.
Yes I have owned a 22R, 3.slow, and 3.4.

How are you going to get a 22re to put out 150HP and 180 LB/FT of torque w/o spending a lot of $$?

The V6 is extremely reliable sans the headgaskets. I've replaced more HG's on 22r/re's than on 3.0's. I've owned 8 22r's, 3 3vze's, 4 3.4's... ALL have been extremely reliable...
