Were Tacoma 2WD made with V6?
In my new search for a commuter, the possibility of a 2WD Tacoma popped in my head. All my searches yielded only 4 cyl trucks. Were any 2WD Tacos made with V6s?

S-runner is correct and very rare. They come in any color you want as long as it's black or red or thats how it used to be. They had 3.15 gears 5x4.5 lug pattern and the 8,4 rear. Lowered 2" from the factory over a standard 2wd.

If it is supposed to be a commuter, why the V-6?
The 2.7 with a stick in a regular cab short bed would be plenty fast and probably a miser on gas.
I am sure you have thought this out, but I would be disappointed with a 2wd truck in CO. The weight gain versus MPG lost cannot be that great and with 4wd you will not get stuck pulling away from the light.
Hey, this must mean big plans for the 97, what's shaking and can you use a hand?

1. Natural loss of power (~20%) due to the altitude. Any 4-banger at that level or above is a dog.
2. You need the power to get around all the stupid drivers and avoid an accident.
3. Alan needs the power to get away from his bad dates as fast as possible!

dont get the v6 prerunner is all i gotta say if you want a commuter, my buddy had one and he got like 15mpg in it at best. Id deff go for a late 90s extended cab with the 4cy stick ... i almost bought one a few months ago ... 32mpg! Thats better than my accord gets half the time!

he ended up sellin it and drives a 04 350z now .... which kinda sucks cause every time we go mountain biking we end up taking my accord with the roof rack cause he refuses to get one for the z.

well actually the taco 2wds have a 2RZ-FE 2.4l motor while the 4x4s got the bigger 3RZ-FE 2.7. not to say that it's got some pep to it, i think 150hp
i'd like to say the v6 was an option in non s-runner extended cabs until a year or so ago when toyota discontinued them. i really wish toyota would put a v6 in regular cabs, i like them better

All Prerunner's came with the 2.7 3RZFE I4 as standard while the 3.4 5VZFE V6 was optional on extended cab models only. I've never seen a single-cab Prerunner Taco with a V6.
I'm pretty sure 2WD single-cab base Tacos had the 2.4L 2RZFE or the optional 2.7L 3RZFE while extended cabs had either the I4 or the optional V6. 4x4's had either the 2.7L or the optional V6.
The 2.4L made 142hp. The 2.7 made 150hp while the 3.4L made around 190hp.
2WD Tacoma's are pretty hard to find in V6 trim especially a V6 5sp model!

I happen to have a v6 2wd thats not a prerunner. Those particular trucks are rare, and even rarer in a 5sp. I have a 2wd 5sp v6-- the rarest of all the trucks. needless to say, I supercharged it and added a bunch of way-go-fast parts and came up with a truck that could take a z-28. Ill sell it if ya want to buy it!
