Rear window help needed

hey guys,

I went out today to work on installing my rock sliders....noticed the back window was down. Figured I was a bone head and had not rolled it up.....so, I roll it up, and get to work - I thought that I heard the power ant going up, and I just got to work. Got up to get my tool box out the back....and....the rear window was rolled down

try and roll it up....nothing.....I hear a click in there, but it won't go up!

tried with the window button, and with the key....no avail on either!

advice needed~~!

thanks in advance!

aaron

ps, i've checked all the fuses....they look good. All the other power windows work

ok...i've got the trim panel and access panel off. I keep hearing my motor relay clicking. Example: I try they key to raise/lower the window- it clicks, but no action...remove the key and with no key in it, the relay will click off on it's own - several times even....

so, I disconnected the motor - the relay still does it's clicky ˟˟˟˟˟!

Any ides on how I can at least get my window UP?!?!?!

t.i.a.,

ok - the multimeter shows 12 v when the switch is NOT engauged(!) - which, leads me to hypothosize (sp) that it is my RELAY that is shot (>???)

and....it keeps clicking when there is no key in anything (!)

and...i fiddled with it long enough that my window STARTED to go up. THEN, it immediately when back down when I stopped and pulled the key out !!!! DOH!

sounds to me like the motor is being "told" to go down by this bad relay (?) Am I thinking correct?

aaron

EDIT-

ok....2 sets of wires leading from the relay to the motor....one is for the motor...the other is a switch telling the motor to shut off because the window is UP.

You might check to see that the scissor-type lift assembly is intact. The support rods are held very flimsily. I wound up tack welding one back in place.

The clicking may be because the support rods can't slide in the rail.

all appears to be operating normally - like I said, I came out to my truck and noticed the window was down....rolled up (went up fine) - then it ROLLED ITSELF back down.
I was standing next to the truck, so if something would have sprung or otherwise come loose, I think I would have heard it. THINK.
Looking at it, to looks to all be intact and correct.

that clicking has me thinking relay. and the Haynes manual is as about as helpful as their f'ing boxer shorts. No support!

ok...seeing as it is JANUARY in MO and I have an unheated, smalla$$ garage....I had to get the rear window UP by applying 12v via a 12V ac/dc power supply.

battle won, the war continues!

more testing.....

Sounds like you are on the right track with the realay idea. Sounds like you prablably need a new one. Is everything clean? You might spary out the electricall stuff with compressed air to make sure.

well....

i know these things:

1) the relay only "clicks" on the "up" command via either the KEY or the Console.
2) if I plug in the motor- it will command the window to go DOWN.
3) physically everything looks OK - no mech. issues...only that it is SLOW to go up w/ this 12v power supply I'm using to do that with. Could be just not enuff juice.
4) figured out my defrost issue....both termanial loose from the glass....now...how to fix that? is it superglued or solder or????

I'm going to clean every contact i can find back there! MAYBE that will do it?

A word on relays......I hate em.

I had a relay for an air horn (yeah I know.....not really necessary)

anyway after muddin the moisture cause two terminals to arc as I was driving through the city. Air horn blaring, I had to pull over and try to unpin my hood (I was unsuccesful). I ended up taking off one hood pin and reaching in and ripping the wire off the battery. I got home check the wiring and the relay had totally arced. Cleaned everything up and it all worked well.

Moral of the story...in this cold weather maybe the same happened to you. Clean all your contacts and put some vasoline on em.

Hope that does the trick. And if it doesn't work...at least you still have the vasoline out.

you mean....did I tell ME what the OG problem was.

I can't afford to take it in to the stealership.....I just concluded the problem is my relay by process of elimination. Motor on the window works....nothing AFTER the relay (or anything the relay controls) works.....so....relay...hopefully!!!

I figured the best thing to do about the rear window was to simply get a pick up
