I have an 89 2wd pick up. I put a new clutch in it about 2 weeks ago and no problems until the last couple days. The tranmission has only about 115k on it and I am sure it is not syncros. Sometimes it clunks out of first and sometimes third. I am thinking it is the bushing problem, but wasn't sure if this was an issue for 2wd's. New pilot and throwout bearings were also put in and everything I used was from toyota. Thanks in advance

 

so it's popping out of gear on you? could very well be the shifter seat...easy to replace.

 

Yeah, it pops out. I am hoping that is what it is. I will order the parts tomorrow, thanks

 

Well I didn't buy the shifter seat, the inner shift boot, I think only 2wd's have them was crunched up and not allowing it to go all the way in gear. The seat looks fine, so I didn't replace it. But it fixed it, thanks.

 

I used to have an 89 4x4 that would pop out of first if I took off without pressur on the shifter (not consistantly) and I was told I had to replace some nilon part at the end of the shifter. Never actually did it thoug, just sold it that way (it had 225k miles on it).
