Manual or Automatic on 3rd Gen.

I was just curious to see how many 3rd Gen 4Runners out here have a 5spd manual transmission?

Yeah do a search for manual vs. 5speed and it should uncover a lot of info about this subject. By the way I have a 5-speed and love every second of it.

I sold a couple of perfectly good Auto's for my 5-speed. I just love it!

I smoked a Honda Pilot today.

Although I own an automatic (wife wont drive a stick) if you intend to do any serious 4 wheeling a 5 speed rules. Try rocking an automatic when its stuck and see how long your trans holds up!

5spd here too.... Love it! It is especially great for towing my 3,000lb boat over the mountain passes around here in the Great Pacific Northwest. It took me forever to find one, though...

I've got an automatic 2001, and while I was initially skeptical, I've had no problem deciding I didn't make a mistake. The ECT Power switch makes a HUGE difference, in my opinion.

I'm also under the impression that there ARE no manuals made after a certain year. Am I wrong?

I have both. Mine is a 2000 5 speed and my wifes has a 99 auto. 5 speed feels like it has much more power or more responsive anyway.

The fastest stock 4Runners are autos
Also yes they do make 5 speed 4runners, they are just auto 5 speed

3rd gen Runners with 5 speeds should be quicker in the 1/4 mile but I would like to see some definitive results. What did the car rags get out of stock 3rd gens back when they came out and were any SC'd Runners tested?
