I just bought a 04 Pre-Runner V6(few questions)

i love it so far, seems like the power is good for the size.
The ride is good.

The gas milage sucks for a compact truck though.

I havn't takin it off road yet, is it good? it isn't a 4x4.

Are the Tires that it comes with(BF goodwrich Rugged trail) good to keep when i need new tires?

And what the hell is teh ECT Power botton? what does it do? the Manual did'nt really explain it.

sorry this is my 1st truck.

i have heard very good reports on it as in maintenance.

and i heard the resale is the best in class.

but over all what do you think of teh Pre-runer v6?

Did you get the TRD model? if not then you have an open diff which limits your off-roading...prerunners are somewhat capable but it's no 4x4...the rugged trails suck once you take them offroad...get some BFG AT's or MT's...the ECT button tells your tranny to hold it in gear longer...it changes the shift points...

Wow... lots of questions. Don't worry about it though - been there
Actually, STILL there

Mileage is not bad - just don't drive around with a lead foot. As far as the rest of your questions go... if you use the SEARCH feature you'll find a lot of the answers you're looking for. But really quickly...

Good offroad?
For mild stuff it's okay. If you have a locking diff. it's almost as good as a 4x4.

Tires?
They suck. Mine lasted 30K before they wore out. Traction is bad too.

ECT?
Keeps the auto in gears a tad longer before shifting.

Resale?
Pretty nice

Overall?
I love my truck but I've been left longing for a 4x4 after hanging around here

EDIT:
Dang, got beat by a minute

no i do not have the TRD, I wish i would have gotten a TRD though but they where kind of pricey.

so the ECT is pretty much if i want to drive faster speed or off road?
ha sorry i dont know ˟˟˟˟ about trucks..

I only owned Hondas b4

ECT will give you extra torque if I'm not mistaken.
As I said, check out the SEARCH feature as topics like ECT have been pretty well-discussed.

Oh yeah, welcome to Yotatech

Extended cab, i think the doubles are ugly plus it gives people excuses to want to ride with me.

If you don't like the seats why don't you just unbolt the suckers? Take them out and give yourself some extra storage space.

I personally happen to love my doublecab and all the extra space it gives me

good idea.

yeah a double cab would be good if you like lots of people to ride with you, but i also have subs and ˟˟˟˟ in my truck and i just can't put them on the seats yaknow? plus the bed is to small.

ECT keeps you in the engine's power band...usually your tranny will shift before u get into the sweet spot....ECT will prevent it from shifting early...it's useful at times but kills mileage...seeing how you're open diff, I don't know how offroad worthy it is...my buddy's got one and we're constantly pullin' him out of the sand...LOL...just learn how to drive it and you'll be ok....you can always get an aftermarket locker...or do a 4x4 swap...

www.tacomaterritory.com

Adding a cold-air intake and a cat-back exhaust should help. This gave me much more torque and better fuel mileage out of my '99 prerunner. I'm currently averaging 21mpg with a 2.5" lift and 32.5" tires.

Since you have an open rear diff the first things I would do is upgrade to better tires and put an Aussie or other lunchbox locker in the rear. Locked 2WD trucks can go almost anywhere a 4x4 can go.
