88 IFS ball joint spacer hight HELP! please respond!~

I need a hand! I need some one with an 88 or around IFS truck to measure from the top of the wheel to the fender. I just installed ball joint spacers and forgot to measure the distance before I installed them! I am getting a little over 15" from the top edge of my SR5 alloy wheel to the fender in the center. I just want to make sure I’m not to high before I take it in Thursday for the LAST alignment. The reason I think it may be to high, and it could just be me, is my upward travel has almost disappeared! PLEASE let me know if you can measure your front end's height for me! Another problem I may have is my torsion bars seem to be cranked all the way up, which can’t be good!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks again, Matt

Hey, I just installed mine on Sunday and before I installed them I had 8 in., front and rear, from the top of the tire to the fender. Now I have 10 in. in the front.

So that means about 13 in. from the wheel to the fender before and 15 in. now. I think.

The torsion bars on my '88 have never been adjusted up or down. I have 15.75" between the fender and the top of the rims (15" rims). I had 14.25 inches before the spacers.

Damn I guess mine are a little high I have 17" from my rim to the fender but I have a 1.4" Body-lift too. I keep destroying idler arms too so I think I might have to lower them a little. I didn't abuse the steering too much the last time out.

Here is all you need to know about adjusting the t-bars. http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/torsion/index.htm

In short, 15" from rim to fender lip is perfect. Stock is 13.5-14". You could to 15.5" if you wanted to as 15-15.5 is about the 1.5" of lift recommended.

Ya I might have to jack it up today and turn down the torsions some more. It's already way soft just wondering if anyone else has thier torsions that high after turning them down 10 turns? I think my magic # for mine is going to be 16 - 16 1/2" since I have a body-lift that # changes.

I had to turn my down a ton. If you already had 'em cranked, you could easily be turning for a while to get it back down. As long as you don't unscrew the nut on top of the adjuster, you're good to go.

I adjusted them today I found the drivers side was at 17" and passengers was at 17.5" for some reason..
When I measured them last they seemed like they were even. It possibly could have been the diffence of a uneven surface. This time I used the concreate parking garage to adjust and measure both not the pavement. At least they are both even at 16.8" right now but the passengers side feels somewhat softer than the drivers side but at least the height is even on both.

The truck is heavier on the passenger side so it can feel heavier or spongier especially on a full tank of gas.

You need to get ideler arm brace from Downey. I ran with that for about three yrs without problems.

Or get the Total Chaos replacement idler arm. It'll cost you an arm to buy, though. $299.

Picture is right here.

Or here. (6th item down.)
