265/75R16s they rub, but...

ok, so from what I've heard the 265/75R16s will rub on a stock 3rd gen, right? What I'm really looking to find out is where they rub, how much they rub, and what type of rubbing is it? Is the rubbing under flexing, hard turning, regular driving? Also, after having them for a while, if the rubbing isn't bad, will they just wear away some of the plastic they hit and stop rubbing?

depends on the wheel. On 16x7's my 265's didnt' rub at all, but on my friend's 16x8's they rubbed at full turn. you'll be fine either way.

you might catch the frame at full turns and flexing, but other than that you should be fine.

Man, I just cant see those rubbing at all on a 3rd gen. I run 285/60/18s on mine and the only place they rubbed was on the fender flare. Just took it out to the shop and shaved off the innner part, can't even see it. I think you will be just fine with those.

It depends on the tire and how much wt you have on the front end. My 265/75R16 Revos rub a fair amount off-road when the steering is turned and the suspension is under load. My MTRs didn't rub as much because the 265/75R16s MTRs are a bit smaller than the Revos. But when they did it made a LOT more noise. That's with around 1-1.5" of lift and a heavy bumper/winch. Stock height they rub on most slow/hard corners, like when turing into a parking stall kinda fast (with the same heavy front end).

On mine they hit a couple different spots - the mud flap and a plastic protrusion in the fenderwell. Neither are that big of a deal.

man, i have been debating this issue for a while now....i want to put 265/75/16 dunlop mud rovers on my 04 stock tacoma ext cab witht he 16 inch enkei wheels........i have pretty much decided that if they do rub it will probably be very minimal and i can do the pinch weld mod in the fender to fix most rubbing....but if anybody has any input please help with my decision!

I run 265/76/16's on my 99 4Runner, and I know my dad runs the same size on his 02 tacoma quad cab pre-runner. Neither of us have rubbing problems

Keep in mind, tires can vary in size, from manufacturer to manufacturer. Not all sidewall sizes are exact. So if it does rub, it SHOULD be minimal.

Under most situations the tires won't rub, but under heavy flexing and steering turned halfway they will rub slightly. Nothing to worry about.......

My 265/75/16 Nitto Grapplers that I just got are far from rubbing on the stock lift/1 16" stock alloys.

My 265/75/16 Bridgestone Dueller ATs (non Revo) did rub at stock height. The rubbing was minimal under full turn and minor compression. Nothing I ever concerned myself with. Not sure where exactly it rubbed, but it was against plastic. Most likely the plastic wheel well liner or the plastic lower valence of the bumper.

Same here. When I went to a 1" BL, the rubbing was gone of course.

I run 265/75/16 Pirelli Scorpions.

I've got 265/75-16 Dueler's. 2000 4runner SR5. Had to cut away a little bit of the running boards behind the tires. During turns it actually cought it and you could hear it pop. Still had a little rubbing after that, when it flexed and the wheels were cut, and I just happen to go get an alignment to fix a pull. They adjusted the caster, and all the rubbing is gone.

Little cutting and an alignment fixed it all.. Hope it helps.

I had my Michelin A/T's 265/75/16's on my 4Runner three months before I got my lift. I never had a problem with it rubbing.

Here's my 265/75-16 Terra Grapplers on my 4Runner before the lift. They cleared fine on full turns, and I don't recall any rubs under compression.
