I want to install a Tach on my new engine.....I know how to on a chevy HEI....but where do I hook the leads up to on the Yotas?

I just thought about it and figured I's ask you guys.....I have not really looked at the distributor or anything to see if I could figure it out......

any help appreciated!

 

The lead goes to the green primary wire that runs to the coil.

I was in your neck of the woods on my honey moon 1 1/2 years ago. We flew into SD and stayed on Coronada for a couple of days. Then Drove up PCH to SF and hung out there. Hit all the stops....Big Sur...Pismo....Sausilitio...on and on.

Well I have a tach now...

Put it in tonight. Its a VDO brand out of the Summit Racing Catalog. I had it laying around and decided to hook it up. I put it on the left hand side above the AC vent. Took my time and soldered all the connections and such.

I am happy.....

My gas gauge is like that too when not on, but it still works fine.

 

lookin good, one of those is to the redline mark, right? mine has a little red notch in the edge that I can move around instead of another needle. it also stays at the rpm's it was running at when I turned it off, but zeros out when the key is turned back to acc.
only thing I don't like about mine is there's a light in it that burns the whole time.. though I guess most the tachs are like that?

 

I like it! I was in the same dilemma too and chose to go with the SR5 swap, but yours looks damn cool. And your install must have been way easier. Does that have a needle you can set for redline?

 

I like the SR5 Gauges....never seen any up close though. I had the entire gauge cluster out and noticed that it would be very easy to swap out a low mileage cluster for a high mileage one. Is this true? YIKES.....scary. When you swapped yous out...did the odometer swap as well?

My gas gauge works....when running. I assume they all go dead when off.

The yellow needle is red-line...I can move it anytime. The red is the true RPM. It might be a bit big for the truck....I had it in my Malibu Classic....and it was small in there. Hope I dont look too much like YOUNG RICE....headed down the highway!

I ended up having two gauge clusters, one for parts. First speedo made a screaming sound when it got cold, had to change the milage on the replacement, actually had to ADD about 15K to it. I'm happy with it, but I must have taken that whole thing on and off about ten times, would have been easier to do what you did but I wanted the other gauges as well.

The odometer assemblies are identical but the diameter of the pin that holds the needle is not. The SR5 has a smaller needle so it can't fit on the bigger non-sr5 odo pin. If you don't mind a mismatched needle then you can keep your exact milage. Otherwise you have to take the sr5 odo apart and carefully twist the miles to match.

There's always the pillar gauge pods, might have to grab one before they stop making them, just in case...
