Check out http://www.toyotadieselmadness.com/ .The 1KZ-TE and D4D would be nice. Good luck finding one unless you import one, or drive to South America and do a swap. The older diesels found in the US were the 2L, and 2LT. Even though they get great mileage the power is less than a 22re. The two I listed above have more HP and torque than a 3.4.

i know that's the law in california. it sure isn't up here in washington, you can do whatever you like. if you happen to live in an emissions controlled zone, you just need to pass a tailpipe test, no need to show them what's under the hood(that's the way it should be done, it shouldn't matter what crap you have on your engine)

I think the law would be to protect buyers of used cars. If you buy a 2002 truck you wouldn't want to find out later it has a 1998 motor in it. What I really want to do is buy a
2004 Tacoma and swap the motor and tranny with my 93 and sell the 2004 Taco with my old 93 motor. Anyone want a 3.slow Taco?

Most of the 2nd and 3rd gens in Costa Rica, Panama, Belize, etc have diesels. There is a company in the Atlanta that sells enigines imported from South America, Japan, Australia etc. I can't find the link right now, but there are some recent threads discussing diesel importing.
