93 PU 3.0, Exhaust replacement price/performance question

Its been 11 years and my exhaust is just about shot, I can tell its got a pinhole leak somewere and the last 6" of the tail pipe is rusting off. (previous owner let this go to long and it started eating at the fender...ggrr)

Anyway I believe I might be looking at an entirely new system from the manifolds to the end of the tail pipe.

I've read quite a few of the exhaust posts here but they havent clarified anything for me. I basically know nothing about exhaust systems. Looks and sound are completely unimportant to me, I want to know if there is any type of system that is affordable that will last a good long time and give me a little boost in performance.

I dont really understand the specifics on how different types of exhaust enhance or retard performance, but if any of you have been here before (hopefully a bunch so I can get some input! What did/would you do?

I'm basically looking to know what I should buy instead of a complete stock unit that doesnt cost a whole lotmore money that could give me a performance boost. I mean If I'm going to be under there changing it out, why not put better parts in it! I hope to keep this truck for a quite a while.

Is there some complete kit I can order, is there a special combo of 2-3 parts? Should I just say screw it and go to midas because they are all the same and cheap to install? I'm kinda lost as to what I need to do, all I know Is I need to do something!

Exhaust

Joe4324- I was bringing my '94 Toy P/U to a Midas for 4 years and I had to go back twice a year. The reason for the lifetime warranty is the tin can mufflers and parts. THEY DON'T LAST. I went to a locally owned repair shop. They installed the exhaust closer to the bed and nearer the center (behind the leaf springs) and brought it out to their (Toyota's) factory location (just to the rear of the tire). In theory it sees less of the road wash. The key is they did the cat back for the same price but the guys used high quality parts.

I dont paticularly want to take it to a 'muffler place' I feel that I could probably install it myself and if I ran into trouble there's a few good people I could ask. I'm just curious to know if there is a good reason to spend a little more then then replacing it with stock parts. If something performs better or gives some type of benefit I would be more apt to installing that instead of the same old thing.

what do you think?
