Question What does SR5 stand for?!

My moms friend is looking into buying an SUV, he actually needs 4wd for work... Anyways, I pointed him into some suvs that meet his needs, of course I lean towards the 4th Gen 4Runners! So today he asks me what is sr5! I always wanted to know, so if anyone can explain what it stands for I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Oh, tacoma_dude found this site, but we're not sure if its correct...

when sr5 used to have a meaning, it meant "sport rally 5 speed." typically you got bucket seats, a sliding rear window, a/c, power steering, tach and extra gauges, maybe a sunroof and often some chrome trim

then toyota started using it on autos

Although the SR5 package and name debuted on the 1973 Corolla.

yup, just about the only things that toyota didn't badge with "SR5" were celicas, coronas and land cruisers. i think the hilux got the sr5 package in 1977.

interesting fact: from 79-80, 4wd trucks weren't available as an SR5 option since they didn't have a 5 speed yet. the upgraded package was called the "sport" package, and though it wasn't badged on the truck like SR5 you got a tach, oil pressure and ammeter, woodgrain dash trim, and tinted glass

You ought to write a book on Toyota history, or maybe just toyota truck history. You seem to know a lot of little things about them.

Yep, it's been a trim package and around since I can remember. I had a 1980 Corolla SR5...
