1ST Gen replacement consoles?
I am looking to replace my beat up center console with something that has cup holders and a bit more storage...oh yea and high enough to rest my arm on it. Anyone have some ideas or links? The problem is the space is very narrow, I had a Bestop console laying around but it is too wide. I am meeting up with some friends with Xterra's over the weekend and will take some measurments to see if their comsoles will fit, I remember it being kind of narrow.

Lots of people have, it's just difficult to find information on what they did. A few have adapted units made by Tuffy, some have used consoles from newer vehicles, and others have scratch-built their own. I'm currently searching for a good '90-95 console to put in my '86, they have good spacing for my crawler box shifter but they're pretty rare.
Don't forget ebay.

I too would like to replace mine.... I've even called TOR (who's on this board) and they no longer make them ( i did score a new dash though
). I've replaced the foam on top, found some really dense foam, wrapped it in some vinyl and its good to go
The foam is about 4 inches tall, so my arm lays across it perfectly.
I haven't really searched for any other options though...

For the low end, I found a pretty nice unit at Autozone last week. Most of the ones they carry are junk, but they usually have one model that is decent. It just happened to fit between the seats and match my grey interior perfectly. Nice cupholder, plenty of storage and just high enough to work as an armrest. Just plain plastic though, no padding on top.
It looks like it belongs and I'm happy with it until I find a padded armrest OEM type to get.
