It’s your rig, sell it if you want to. I think you’re nuts and I can tell you one day you’ll wish you hadn’t. These old good rigs are getting harder to find and they are going to get harder to find in the future. Most of the people on this forum, like me, have had people flag you down on the street and ask to buy their rig. That’s because nice old ones are really rare these days. I think you should just have yourself declared incompetent then you won’t have to make this decision. Joking aside I know you are really going to wish, at some point you hadn’t sold it.

I sometimes regret selling my '86 in 1992 but not so much when I remember how gutless it was. It was also red with automatic but had a chrome grill and bumpers.
Why did it need a new engine and transmission? Mine had around 80K when I sold it and was still running strong.

My wife's 86 was also red and with the auto. It WAS gutless but she loved it. Our son totaled it when it had 450K + miles on it. The engine had a blown head gasket and timing chain sets done x2. NOTHING done to the transmission other than oil change every 100K miles. It didn't even leak. Every time she sees one she misses hers. If you were in AZ it would possibly end up in our driveway. Think about it before you sell it.

It's hard when you're not mechanically inclined. I've always had a knack for mechanical things even before I could officially drive. My 4runner was my first "new" car at about age 23. I bought it in 1988 and it only had about 13K miles at the time. I drove it on all kinds of road trips from SoCal to all the way to BC Canada. If I was younger I'd hit you up for your 4runner.
