Parking break repair
Hello all, my new to me 93 SR5 Pickup was having the ole blinking brake light problem. I believe it is a combination of the brake fluid needing a top off (as it blinks on deceleration) and some minor damage to the front parking break cable nearest the handle stops the handle from closing all the way because of the slight fraying. Rather than spend the now $125 for OEM new cable (197,500 miles and 98%, except the camper shell, has been serviced with OEM parts), do you think it would be possible to cut the cable shorter past the fray (not even 2") and re crimp the pin that attaches to the rod inside the brake lever assembly? then just adjust the torsion under the truck for correct operation.
I guess it really depends on how the pin is affixed to the cable, Does anyone have any ideas?

Not a chance at all, that brake cable is a very specific part. (Trust me, I tried.)
If you don't care about having a parking brake, you can unplug the switch at the base under the dash. That will turn the light off.

For all the work you need to be doing removing the cable crimping a new pin on adding a length to the rear .
At least find a used cable to modify myself I would buy a New Cable.
Remember the use of the Parking brake keeps the rear shoes adjusted it is a pain to adjust them every few weeks depending on brake use.

Just buy a new one. You'll be happy you did.
I already went through all the trouble of trying to repair my OEM cable back when they were a dealer only part at about $120.
I fought it and fought it and fought it and ultimately wound up driving my truck for 10 years without a parking brake.
