1995 2nd gen torsion bar mount broken

Hi Yota Friends my dear 4Runner has a little problem.
Due to corrosion and grease on those bolts a part of frame broke off. It is crazy what some kind of repair shops are asking me for doing this. Between 3000-7000€ have mentioned in those conversations.

For now the best solution seems to get the frame bracket and weld it on. Today i got this doc by Toyota Freeman and it seems like they can help me. I just need to be sure wich part number it is. I also add all pictures i could make underneath the wheel arch. After purchasing the new part we have to cut out the old one, clean it up and weld in the new one, correct? Or are there any issues Im not thinking about?

P.S. This part also functions as the engine mount right?

Hope you can help me.
A old 4Runner is a rare sight here in northern Gemany; she has to get back onto the streets to show her claws!

As far as I understood the technical drawing spare part 51502 should be correct one, yes?

Wow I've never seen that before. If it were mine, I would strip everything out on that side, clean the break as good as possible, weld the break back together, then fishplate and gusset every possible spot along the break that won't interfere with operation, top and bottom. I can see why shops want to charge a lot, that's going to be a big job.
The part you're looking at appears to be for a 3rd gen, 96-02 Runner which has a front strut assembly instead of a torsion bar.

Thank you for your reply. I will get back to you tmr. Its is definately another part. Maybe we can find out together how big that job is. From my point it isnt. Nothing compared to a SAS or engine swap. Just to cut out the old bracket and weld the new one???? Cheers!

If you have welding skills then it shouldn't be a big deal, just time consuming. That's where the shop will get you. I don't know what welders charge where you are, but in UDS that seems like an extremely high number!! I could see that repair costing probably $1500 here.

Hey Moto, well, repair has gone inflationary here because of several reasons. It is a shame...the 7000€ offer was just a rip off. Including the spare part nothing more than 1000-1500€ is acceptable and bearable in my opinion.
Anyhow Im pretty sure the correct spare part is : Part No.:51048-35030BRACKET SUB-ASSY, EN

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f160...z-swap-126413/ have a look.

In the process we have to lift up the engine a little and cut out those brackets. Is it possible to do this with the transmission still mounted to the engine? I guess 2 cm are enough.

For the welding -> A friend of mine is a welder. So i guess all will be fine although surely a lot of work.

Thank you
Cheers!

Yep, looks like you got it figured out this time! You can lift the engine a little without unbolting the trans, but hopefully there will be enough room to work with the engine in there still. Hopefully you won't have to pull it out. That other thread looks like the perfect walkthrough for you. Good luck with the repair, let us know how it goes!

Hey while doing the preparation for repairing the frame. Do you got any repair manual for the frame? It should exist somewhere. Toyota germany doesnt provide me with this unfortunately
Best wishes!
