1988 Toyota Pickup Horn

1988 Toyota Pickup Horn
I'm pretty sure I narrowed my horn issue down to the actual horn being the issue. I checked the horn itself and I can't get it to make any sound with a 12 volt. I figure that I should just replace it and call it a day but I'm having trouble finding the right horn. If I type in the part number I can only find one ebay ad for a used horn which is a little bit expensive.
As far as I can read the part number is:
86520-89106
Here is my actual horn:

I'd much prefer the original horn as the truck is all stock but if that isn't possible maybe I will opt for an after market one. What horn do you guys recommend that is plug and play? Also the ebay ad I see is here:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/86-87-88-89...AAAOSwOzxe-5IC
Any idea what "8G" is as opposed to "8H" ? Also there appears to be some kind of elbow sticking out of the bottom, and mine does not have that. Other than that both horns look to be the same.
Much appreciated,
Sonny

When I go to a wrecking yard I could grab one for you, but I've been waiting awhile for a 4Runner to drop at a yard close to me. If I can get one it should be pretty inexpensive. lmk
Yours had the "elbow" but is now gone. It was to let water drain out. Your clearance lights in the corner had tubes to let condensation out, also.
The "8H/8G" could be production runs, or even city location of Denso factory. I don't know. If the 10 digit Toyota part number is the same, or a superseded one, than you're good to go.86520-89109 would interchange with yours.

The horns themselves were all pretty similar. It wasn't uncommon to see basically the same part on a Corolla, Celica, or Van from the same time period. In this case, the bracket that mounts the horn would often be the only difference. but that you can take off your old one and swap out.
If you get a horn off a different model Toyota I'd recommend taking the connector off the wiring harness, too, just in case. If the connector is slightly different than your existing one you can take the terminals out of your old one and slide them into the connector you got with the horn. A tad more work than splicing, but a lot cleaner. Once you get good at taking wires out of terminals it's actually faster than splicing.

Before you determine your current horn is bad, be sure you are providing enough current. Horns take a fair amount. Straight from the battery with 18ga (or thicker) wire is plenty. But if you try to test it with wimpy alligator clips/sketchy wire, you might not be providing enough current to make it sound.

I would go with an upgraded aftermarket horn. I recently replaced the horn in my 1993 pickup with a larger aftermarket one, as the old one was fried. Much better horn sound than the classic Toyota road-runner meep-meep.
Something like this: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BK_7...wordInput=horn
Plugged right in and bolted up perfectly. Didn't even have to take anything apart.

Speaking of above, first-gen Morefunner horns, like a couple other Toyota boo-boo's, do not have a relay. Here's

Interesting. I suppose the horn is one of the bad designs on these trucks. Not only does the contact behind the steering wheel die but the horn itself is awful. I rarely use mine though I live in the woods but I definitely want it to work. I'm in the mood to get "everything working" on my truck finally. When I first got the truck it would intermittently work and I thought it was dying then, in terms of its sound. I guess that is just what it sounds like.
And there is just one horn on this truck correct? Not two?

Need a loud one in So Cal - LOL!
Absence of relay causes both issues.
Yes, only one horn. I wired mine to accept a second horn but got more things to worry about.

Hysterical. I forgot how many used to mock those early horns. I guess not much better than my Yamaha scooter.
I'm not sure how much you can disassembly a horn, but it might be worth the effort to clean terminals and see if you can pull the "bell" part off and clean. Maybe it just got rusted a bit.

Woe betide those who mock the 'Meepers'.
Let us not forget that Japan is a polite society.
Well, except for that Pearl Harbor thing..........

I like my horn! It's unique. Very, very few horns left on the road sound the way Toyotas do. Unique!
Pearl Harbor wasn't the fault of the military, per se. It was due to the Ambassadors being really lousy typists. Slow as hell. They were supposed to have delivered the declaration of war two or three hours before they actually did. If they had, it would have been well in advance, ok a couple hours, but still before, the military attacked. In their way of thinking, that's not a sneak attack. Perfectly fair to the enemy, us.
WE, on the other hand, were still convinced they wouldn't dare, especially on a Sunday. A day of rest, and worship, right? Not to the Japanese! Just another day for making war. Different attitudes completely.
But the American Military, and political, leaders, wouldn't see any other point of view.
They also put ground pounders in charge of the planes, who didn't have any idea about how to use them, so they piled them up on the flight line tight together. Prevent sabotage, they said. Look what that got them. All the planes neatly packed together on the flight line. One big target. A couple runs with explosive cannon shells, and a bomb or two, poof, no more planes for the Generals to worry about.
Battleship Admirals, who had no use for airplanes, had the Navy side of the house. NO idea how to use a carrier. They learned fast, once all their pet battleships were sunk!
Ok, shutting up now...

I ended up going to a Pick n Pull in Rocklin Ca. I found some similar horns from 4 runners and pickups but not the exact same one. The connectors were different too so I didn't grab one but I should have. I just want the same one honestly. The truck is all original, I'm a stickler I know. So if anyone happens by an original, let me know.
