Gear Question

I've got a 94 5speed v6 Runner that I'm planning on lifting and putting some 33x12.50s or 33x10.50s on. Right now I have 4.56s gears (I think...the code is g254 so correct me if I'm wrong) and I'm dont really want to regear if I dont have to. Just wondering who all out there is running 33s with these gears and your thoughts on it, mainly regarding gas milage. Thanks alot guys

Shawn

Yeah, after getting this thing, and browsing yotatech, I came to grips with the fact that its gonna be slow. After putting bigger tires on her, I figure this will be a little worse, but what I'm really concerned about is gas milage. That really wouldnt bother me if I wasnt spending about $1.80 for gas...87 at that... GEEZ!!

I still have the 4.56 gears that came stock in my truck. When I first got my 33's, I actually liked the fact that the tires reduced the steepness of the gears. I percieved 4.56 to be a bit much. This was with a fresh 3.0 V6. However, gas mileage and power did suffer. Now I want to get 4.88 for my rig. As my mileage increased the engine lost more and more power. The loss of power on hills and merging into traffic especially is getting kinda scary. A change from 4.56 to 4.88 is not a huge percentage but anything has got to be an improvement.

fyi... current gas mileage is about 18 mpg mostly highway..sucks
imo... especially with the 4runner I would really consider moving to 4.88 your engine and clutch will thank you.

I've got a 5 speed manual, and right now I'm getting 17-19mpg mainly around town running 31x10.50s. How much will my gas milage suffer going from ATs to MTs?

Sounds like I should be in the same boat as you doink. What were you getting with the 31 ats?

Also, anybody running or know much about Dayton Timberline MTs? I've been trying to find some reviews but having no luck.
