No speedo and no Volt gauge

Hey all. Back after a long hiatus. Spent the last two years in Ethiopia. Back for 9 months to have a baby. There I have a 97 solid axle double cab hilux with a 3l diesel that I would love to turbo some day. Anyway back to my state side trusty old 94. 12 years ago I put an sds system on it and just got the tach working. Problem is the battery voltage gauge in the dash does not work and the volt gauge does not work. I had the cluster out and nothing seemed glaringly wrong. I have not checked the speed sensor yet. What is the usual culprit for this kind of failure. Its pretty much been sitting for 2 years.

Anyone ever encountered this before? To clarify the speedometer and the volt gauge don't work. Odometer also does not work. Truck has basically been sitting for 2 years. I cleaned the speed sensor. Oil was behind the plastic sensor portion and I cleaned that out. I took the cluster out and everything seemed ok. Is it gauge cluster time or is there another place to look.

I assume your fuel gauge works. Since it's powered from the same bus as the voltmeter, that means that bus has voltage, so I would suspect the meter. When you had the combination meter (cluster) out, did you test the meter? http://web.archive.org/web/200901240...e/combinat.pdf "Seemed ok" is a good place to start, but you're not going to be able to see the electrons.

I assume you have the electronic vehicle speed sensor (VSS1). (My '94 has one, but it's not clear if Toyota switched over in a single model year or otherwise). If it's full of oil, it's probably bad. But I wouldn't replace such an expensive part on "probably." So, again, did you test it?

What is the test procedure? Yeah the fuel gauge works fine.
