So I was trying to help a guy troubleshoot his rear window not working properly and I mentioned checking the rear wiper seated properly. He said he didn’t have one.. and then he sent me pictures and claims the top had never had a wiper. It’s an 86. Has anyone heard of a 4Runner not having the rear wiper? He has painted the shell, but claims there was no hole or anything there before the paint.
Weird, does it have a switch for it in the console or wiper juice bag?
my wiper switch today made me think the back window was acting up.
First thing about troubleshooting the window is make sure there is a bolt in that hole near the roll bar on the driver’s side. There is a switch under that one.
First time I see a first gen 4Runner without rear wiper.
Nice roof bars, do you have more info about them?

Try the window lock button in the center console first.
There was a stripped version that didn't have a rear wiper. There were also a few(not many) that came to dealers without rear seats. Pretty basic units.
It's stretching my memory a bit, but i think the first part of the vin# on those units was JT5RN6..., not JT4RN6... The "5" designated a incomplete vehicle.

there may be a designation that shows that, but it isn't jt5 vs jt4. my red '87 is a seat-delete version, and the vin begins with jt4, as it does in my white '87 non-seat-delete version. as noted in my sig, both are sr5 models.
Cool. I do remember the first time I was checking in a 1st gen 4R with the 5 in the vin. It caught me off guard and I took a step back trying to figure out what was missing. I would have assumed today it was the rear seats, but I just don’t recall.

to be sure, the jt5 vs jt4 might be the difference between a stripped model vs the regular dlx/sr5 models. my point was intended to be that jt4 vs jt5 wouldn't show seat-delete vs. non seat-delete.
