I just got the Factory repair manual for my 4Runner.

I clearly shows how to remove the XREAS shocks.

Lift all 4 wheels of vehicle to stretch out shocks, and then it shows where to disconnect the XREAS line. System is hydrualic, but it seems it has valves of some sort at the disconnect points. I can scan some pages and post if needed.

ANybody actually tried it?? I will be doing my lift soon and this can help to make it easier. I might just go with the proven route, but it can make it easier to be able to disconnect the XREAS lines and take the strut out in the front.

 

hmm interesting point. I guess I'll have to read the manual tonight ahd take a quick look thru.

 

Your just going to disconnect them then reconnect them, do you loose any fluid while doing this and is their a way to refill them if you do loose fluid

 

Interesting, never saw that area. Don't think I would want to risk a $1400 part and take a chance.

 

That's what the instructions show. To hang all4 wheels so all the shocks are stretched out and then there are specific disconnet points. Actually there is a section that shows you actually have to uncouple the tube at the shock to drain the fluid before dicarding. SO I would assume there is a type of valve mechanism at the disconnection points. I will scan the instruction pages sometime this weekend, maybe somebody with electronic copy can post these specific pages.

 

I probably wouldn't, but would like to know, as I think if the dealers are telling us it's $1400 its nonsense, as you can brake down the XREAS system and replace the pieces you need.

How do they fit it in the first place?? I will read a bit more and see if I can get more info. BUt this might be good news down the line, as a shock replacement might be cheaper than we thought.

 

The XReas system is comprised of replaceable parts according to my factory service manual which says the same thing Bulldog is saying.

Apparently there are about four hardline and rubber components to each line of the "X" with a valve in the middle.

I'm guessing about three hundred bucks for the strut assembly and the 1st segmented hardline thats immediately connected to it.

Want a real challenge, try to find a tech who can actually repair and recharge these shocks and lines!

I noticed that section in the manual too, but I didn't want to try it. Plus, it sounds like it would be farrrrr more trouble than just installing the lift with the xreas still connected. Once you get in there, you'll see that it is not very difficult after you get the strut out.

 

Dude, if I have one of my shocks go out in 4-5 years and the dealership wants $1400... Me and the dealership are going to have SERIOUS problems.
I don't think Toyota would screw people that bad over a busted shock.
